12th Feb 2007

In our usual no nonsense fashion, we finished our fitness training very quickly. As promised before in my email, there were interval training, some weights training, and agility. Nothing but fun and excitement. But for today, Volleyball ruled!

Volleyball Rules the Day

Ruthless continues to the motto of the senior Volleyball team. "Ruthless" in a baritone voice we would chant before the showdown match between the seniors and juniors. Although seniors outnumbered the juniors by one today, their youthfulness well made up for it.

Susan was our new addition today and she opened the match with a storm. Her serving prowess coupled with Wenhui's relentless and nothing less than ruthless blocking skills, was a formidable combination against our juniors. However, our juniors learned fast! They caught up quickly with a few tricks they learned from Wenhui's blocking, and they brought a few crucial points back when Wenhui was rotated to the back row.

Fortunate for us but unfortunate for the juniors, even though they were catching up fast, Yee Leen was in immaculate form today. She was blocking and smacking even more ruthlessly than Wenhui. Then when Susan was rotated to the front with her, she was also picking up speed with all that blocking even though she found us weird playing with no net, blocking and kicking the ball.

The first game ended in a tense manner because the juniors were really hot on our heels. Then professionally we switched court and kicked off our second game immediately. We dug, spiked and blocked the ball, and fended off the juniors' resistance. As the good old Chinese saying goes, "Older ginger are more spicy," we kept the juniors attempt to beat us in Volleyball at bay. Two games to us seniors - RUTHLESS!

Sideline Tidbits
In desperation, there were many unconventional moves that garnered a barrel of laughter:

(1) Wenhui invented the backwards block today! It was almost like a move in the Japaneses Volleyball show back in the 80s... it was fantastic but more importantly, it was ruthless...!

(2) Shanyou caught the ball before chest passing it to our side??!! Immediately, she was cursed out by the seniors like Buffy the Vampire Slayer chasing a Vampire with a holy cross!

(3) Nana and Geraldine tried the backward dig and pass, but unfortunately the ball bounced to their faces before it could come to our sides! Although they were "pai sei" we could not help but roll on the ground with laughter. Sorry if we laughed too hard but it was beyond our control!
Watch this space for the photos of the two rival Volleyball teams.

Team Juniors - Ever so youthful

They tried to look sulky for this supposedly "losers" photo but could not quite pull it off... except maybe for Ziying, but I could not quite make out the expression... looks like she using the "big white telephone!"

Team Ruthless!

You scared yet... see Yee Leen, Lijuan and Lili's faces!

Seems like the focus of our fitness training has become VOLLEYBALL!You shd consider renaming this blog to sneakersvolleyballtraining.blogspot.com. And our club could become Sneakers Soft Volleyball Club. Muahahaha.....Anyway a suggestion, even though we are very comfortable and proficient in the art of Volleyball pushing with no net, how about playing with a net/raffia string next time?It could bring our game to a higher (and more orthodox) level :)
